A MOTHER is gearing up to give a nursery school’s fundraising efforts a big push – by single-handedly shifting her three-tonne vehicle 100m down a track.

Sarah Metcalfe, 33, of Blackhill, Consett, is in training for the sponsored Big Push of a Land Rover Discovery, in aid of Shotley Bridge Nursery School.

Mrs Metcalfe, who heads the nursery's Friends group will be taking on the challenge as part of a fun day at Allensford from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, September 4.

The mother-of-three said: “I have been practising for months.

“I decided to start going to the gym a year ago to get more healthy and fit and decided to incorporate this in my training."

In the last year alone the friends have managed to raise more than £1,500, which has been used to buy more staging equipment for the school.

Nursery school director Anne Young: “We are thrilled. It is absolutely amazing. Mrs Metcalfe has put in an awful lot of effort to fundraising lots of things for the nursery."
