ACCLAIMED Japanese pianist Mami Shikimori will perform in grand surrounding in County Durham next month.

The concert in the Chapel at Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, on Friday, September 2, 7.30pm, is the culmination of Bishop Auckland Music Society’s 2016 concert series.

She will perform works by Schubert, Ravel and Debussy.

Tickets priced £13.50 are available from Brotherton’s Music, Bishop Auckland, Brian Varley on 01388-606075 or for £15 on the door.

Concert goers have been reassured parking will be available in the grounds as usual after concerns were raised because of ongoing road works in Bishop Auckland Market Place.

Organisers have been told by Durham County Council the access route will be via North Bondgate, turning right in front of Kings Lodge, and then a left turn towards the Castle. Signage on site will be rationalised to make the route clear.

A spokesperson said: “Essentially, drive to the left of the Town Hall, where traffic lights are in operation, follow the road round towards the Castle Clock Tower Gateway via a temporary roadway skirting the roadworks, then in through the Gateway as normal.”
