A PUB is hosting its first gin festival over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Jolly Farmers at Leavening, near Malton, decided to hold the event after seeing the increasingly popularity of the drink.

Emma Cansick, from the pub, said they had already ran a “gin of the week” and decided to expand it to a three-day festival.

“Gin is very popular in our pub and I have a passion for different and exciting gins so we decided to run our own festival,” she said.

“We will have 28 gins, including eight from the North-East, an alcohol-free juniper cordial and a traditional Jenever.”

They also have three masterclasses with distillers - the Lakes Gin, Masons and Sloemotion.

“We have live music on Saturday from the Ermine Street Band and Ellie Coast on Sunday,” she said.
