A COMMUNITY was brought together at a family fun day held on a Newton Aycliffe housing estate.

Silverdale Place welcomed young and old today (August 25) for the event organised by the Western Area Stakeholder Partnership and the Western Area Community Centre.

The Police Interceptors, a magician, clowns, animal petting, and a bouncy castle kept kids entertained.

Organiser Cllr Ken Robson said: “We have got a bid of bad press and we just want to show we’re doing things about it. This is a good way of getting people out into the neighbourhood. I’m really pleased by the amount of people who have come out.”

The Livin-funded celebration also marked the launch of the Community Junior Street Champions - a team of youngsters who will tackle litter problems in the area.

Volunteer Dorothy Bowman said: “This it to teach people they should not drop litter.”
