A DIAMOND couple are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday.
Brian and Audrey Turner, of Chilton, originally “spotted” each other at Coundon Picture House and spent five years courting before being married on August 25, 1956.
Councillor Turner, who is a member of Chilton Town Council and worked in mining until 1994, said: “Romance just blossomed - we were only 16.”
The couple tied the knot at St James’ Church, in Coundon, followed by a reception at Coundon Church Hall and honeymoon in Blackpool.
Two daughters, Diane and Karen, followed as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
And the whole family is travelling far and wide to throw the couple a big party this weekend.
Asked what the secret to a happy marriage is, Cllr Turner said: “We have had total trust with each other all our lives.”
