A NORTH-EAST builder turned £1 into £1.6m in just over 22 minutes playing on an online gambling website.

Scott Clydesdale, of Spennymoor, was using a £20 Sky Vegas bonus playing the Toy Factory slot game when he struck gold.

The 40 year-old’s win means he joins two other North-East Sky Vegas millionaires from this year – a woman from Stockton who won from a 20p spin and David Robinson of Newcastle, who scooped £2.64m.

With a national average salary of £26,500 it would take more than 60 years for someone earning this amount to earn the figure Mr Clydesdale landed in 22 minutes and 38 seconds.

He was presented with a cheque for £1.6m and limited-edition Sky Vegas millionaire champagne at Redworth Hall Hotel, Newton Aycliffe.

“When you see it on the screen, your heart’s telling you that you’ve won it but your head’s saying something’s going to go wrong,” he said.

“I’m a bit cynical and never thought that a real person won the big jackpots. Obviously now I know it’s real.

“I’m due to get married next year so this is going to help a great deal with that and we’re going to Florida.

“I’ve never had a holiday before – I’ve not got a passport. I’m a big darts fan and love watching Peter Wright so this win will allow me follow that more closely.”

He added: “I’ve not been living up here for long, I’m originally from Lincoln, but I think I made the right decision as this is where all the Sky Vegas winners are from.”

Sky Vegas spokesperson Sarah Hackett said: “Massive congratulations to Scott on picking up the £1.6m jackpot and joining an exclusive club of Sky Vegas millionaires.

“The really big wins have a habit of landing in the North-East who are rapidly becoming the luckiest folk in the land.”
