AFTER a week of work, thrill-seekers Ali and Chris Pooley are looking forward to the weekend – but it will be anything but restful.

For the couple are planning a truly exhausting time - running the equivalent of two marathons across six mountains in less than 48 hours.

The North Yorkshire pair are travelling up to Scotland to begin their challenge from the base of Ben Nevis at 5am tomorrow.

The first part of the effort will see them tackling the UK’s three tallest climbs – Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis - in just 17 hours.

Then they plan to drive straight back to their native county to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks - Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The couple, who live in Harrogate, are taking on the gruelling challenge in support of a close friend who suffers from multiple sclerosis.

Sales manager Chris, 27, said: “He’s a true gentleman who has made us aware of the realities of living with MS and just how unpredictable the condition is.

“I’ve seen how it’s had an impact on every aspect of his life, from his work to his family.

“The stories of his day to day struggles really hit home for and Ali and me, and we knew we had to raise as much money as we could for other people living with the condition and their families.”

The couple – who call themselves ‘Married Mud Actually’ after the film Love Actually– took on a year-long fitness challenge in 2015 which saw them complete 17 gruelling challenges in 11 months, raising more than £10,000 for MS.

Ali, 28 and a PA at Walters Wealth Management, said they had been using their love of fitness to fundraise since they started dating.

She said: “Chris had already been raising money through his work, but we really wanted to do something different and challenging. We planned to take a break after our wedding in May. We tried to do the normal nine-to-five married life but it wasn’t for us.

“Initially the idea was to run the National Three Peaks, but then we thought people run them all the time. We wanted to make it harder and really ‘wow’ our friends and family. If that wasn’t enough, we’re going to try and do it all in less than 36 hours.”
