YOUNG designers who teamed up with a shower company for a schools competition landed an award for their work.

Year eight pupils from Barnard Castle School worked with shower designer and manufacturer Roman, based in Newton Aycliffe, for the Future Business Magnates project which is in its 11th year.

Around 20 County Durham schools partner a local business which helps 12 and 13 year olds come up with an innovative product and create a business plan around that.

The Barnard Castle and Roman team won the award for best presentation, which was the final challenge of the competition and saw team stand up in front of a panel of judges to present their idea and answer questions.

Their idea was a shower seat system in three models- to fit a standard shower, integrated into an enclosed pod and a deluxe version with WiFi and speakers.

David Osborne, managing director of Roman, said: “Barnard Castle School worked extremely hard on their product idea and to win the Best Presentation in the competition is such an achievement.

“The team’s enthusiasm and eagerness to learn was inspiring to see and it has been a great pleasure to help and guide them through their various business challenges and we congratulate them on their well-deserved award.”
