AN annual fundraiser for a Malton-based charity has broken all records.

The sixth Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge raised just over £27,000 for Ryedale Special Families - the highest amount since the event’s launch six years ago.

The two-day challenge has since become one of the area’s major cycling events, as well as an important contributor to the charity’s fundraising efforts.

Just over 160 cyclists took part in the 144-mile bike ride, starting and finishing at Norton College.

Spokesman Rob Davies said: “Once again we’re completely overwhelmed by the number of cyclists who entered the event, but in particular with the incredible total that each and every one of them helped to raise.

“Last year’s total of £22,000 was a staggering amount, but to surpass that by more than £5,000 is unbelievable.”
