THESE furry racers are going head-to-head to see who will win this year’s hamster grand prix at a North-East tourist attraction.

Four rodents in specially modified cars are being pitted against each other at Adventure Valley in, Brasside, near Durham.

The “drivers” have been named Lewis Hammy, Nico Rodentberg, Kimi Raikkochew and Jenson Button Nose and race along an eight-metre track, with live commentary.

They each have their own wheel, which slots into a racing car, and whoever crosses the chequered line first is the winner

Marco Calzini, owner of Adventure Valley, said: “It’s brilliant. Sometimes they go forwards and sometimes they go backwards but it’s good fun and its good exercise for them.

“We race them a couple times a day and the public loves it.

“We’ve added new racers to the lineup for summer and think the kids will love them. Jenson Button Nose is in poll position, he’s the one to watch.”

A race takes place every day at 2pm as part of summer activities at the centre.
