ADVENTURER Charlie Head made landfall in North Yorkshire during his epic attempt to travel 3,000kms around the UK on his stand-up paddleboard.

His long journey is aimed at spreading awareness of environmental damage from ocean plastics as well as fundraising for his environment charity, the Big Stand.

And, still only part way through his challenge he called in at Scarborough’s Sea Life Centre to see what impact litter and plastic waste has on local coastal waters and its inhabitants.

“It was a real eye opener to see first-hand how the centre is helping injured marine creatures affected by litter pollution,” he said.

“The centre introduced me to a sick seal pup who had managed to find itself entangled in discarded rope - and this sight re-confirmed one of my many reasons for taking part in this epic adventure.”

Charlie’s endeavour is estimated to take between three and four months to complete and so far he is only four weeks into the challenge.

Apart from his paddleboard the adventurer, from the Isle of Wight, only has emergency rations and sleeping gear and is relying on donations to buy food.
