A SPECIALLY designed chair will allow people with disabilities to bowl alongside their friends.
The new chair has been introduced at Bishop Auckland Bowling Club thanks to a grant and award of funds from a local councillor.
Cllr Sam Zair gave £2,381 from his Neighbourhood Budget towards the chair which cost more than £3,000.
It will be used by members of a group who attend the club once a month with Deaconstar, which provides support to people with disabilities, who until now have been unable to join in.
“People who are not able to join in the fun of bowling will now be given the chance to participate in the sport,” said Cllr Zair.
“It’s very heartwarming to see the fun, energy and enthusiasm they get from it.”
A campaign to raise funds for the chair was started last year when Cllr Zair got on board and pledged his support.
The club also received about £600 in the form of a grant to go towards it.
