CHILDREN in County Durham were treated to a thrilling stunt display as a reward for a year of walking, cycling and scooting to school.
Pupils at Sedgefield Primary School enjoyed a breath-taking show from the 3SIXTY cycle stunt team after being crowned the winners of a competition.
It was named champion of the Durham County Council supported MEGA Motion contest aimed at encouraging a healthier and more environmentally friendly way of getting to school.
Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said: “As well as enjoying some memorable fancy dress walks to school, MEGA Motion teaches the pupils from an early age - and in a fun way - about the health and environmental benefits of sustainable travel.”
More than 2,500 pupils from 15 schools across South Durham took part this year, earning points every time they used sustainable travel.
As well as earning the most points, the 329 children from Sedgefield Primary were awarded MEGA Hero status.
The scheme saw MEGA Fridays held at each school throughout the year which resulted in more than 78 per cent of recorded journeys using sustainable methods such as walking, cycling, scooting, public transport or car sharing.
