A NURSERY for children with complex needs has been ranked “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors.

High Flyers Early Support Nursery in Thornaby was found to be outstanding in all areas, from the development and behaviour of the children to the quality of teaching and leadership.

It was praised for offering an “overwhelmingly positive atmosphere” as well as “consistently innovative and inspiring” teaching.

The nursery, which has 29 pupils aged three and four, was also praised for providing a safe environment.

Education manager Caroline Platts, said: “We are delighted to have maintained our ‘Outstanding’ judgement, which was originally awarded in a previous inspection in May 2011.

“This is a reflection of the hard work of all the staff, who constantly ensure the very best outcomes for our children, year after year, even with a more rigorous inspection framework.

"We take great pride in knowing that the children we work with, all of whom have complex and additional needs are getting the best start to their education.”

Nursery activities were highlighted for being well targeted at supporting children to build their individual skills, capabilities and develop confidence.

The report also includes comments from parents that staff have helped them to grow in confidence to support their children’s learning and development at home.

Cllr Ann McCoy, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I would like to congratulate the nursery staff, manager, parents and children.”
