A STUDENT who recreated an exam room in the hall of his home to revise for his GCSEs has been rewarded for his efforts.

Haughton Academy student Joshua Parkinson joined a host of prize-winners of all ages at the annual Student of the Year awards ceremony at The Education Village, Darlington, earlier this week.

Steven Clough, Haughton Academy’s deputy head teacher, said: “Joshua has shown such an incredible work ethic. He even set up an examination desk in in the hall of his home.”

Teachers also had high praise for the students they had nominated from the Education Village Academy Trust’s other schools.

Beaumont Hill Academy pupil Ethan Dand took the top prize for his excellent overall attitude while Gurney Pease Academy’s top award went to Oliver Luck.

Year 6 pupil Emma Doudican secured the prize at Springfield Academy while Team of the Year went to Beaumont Hill’s football squad. The Kevin Duffy Community Award was given to the Boathouse Café crew for overcoming personal challenges.
