A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after falling from a horse in Spennymoor, County Durham, on Saturday.

The 50-year-old woman had been thrown from a horse before the animal stood on her.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene at around noon and the GNAAS doctor and paramedic crew assessed and treated the patient for a chest and possible head injury.

She was then airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough within eight minutes.
