A TEAM of artists who created a giant painting on Yorkshire Gliding Club’s airfield for the Tour de Yorkshire have been presented with a trophy for the most eye-catching design on the race’s route.

The 70-metre high, 40-metre wide artwork, featuring a horse, a ram and a wild boar riding a penny farthing on Sutton Bank, near Thirsk, overcame competition from 11 other finalists in a public vote, in which more than 2,000 votes were cast.

The North York Moors National Park Authority and Hambleton District Council commissioned the work and it was designed and created by the Landmark Collective over 14 days, using 1,000 litres of white biodegradable pitch-marking paint.
