A SCHOOL will open up its new £6.4m building to the public next week.
Wolsingham School has organised an action-packed programme of activities for people to enjoy as they tour the facility at an opening evening on Tuesday, July 7, from 4pm to 8pm.
In the science faculty, visitors can become forensic scientists for the day and have a go at analysing footprints, fingerprints and soil samples.
The mathematics faculty is inviting people to try their luck in the Room of Infinite Probability, while the history department will showcase its research on the World Cup’s roots in West Auckland.
There will also be an opportunities to watch Lego robots in action and to make a laser cut keyring with help from the technology department.
Other highlights include: a police quad bikes display; samba drumming from 4pm to 5.30pm; an open choir rehearsal from 5.30pm to 7pm; free trampolining and badminton sessions in the sports hall; and performances by Professor Bunsen, the flaming magician.
Free tea and coffee will be served and further refreshments will be available to buy from Bistro 1614.
The event will be rounded off with a performance of A Musical Summer Evening, featuring the Durham Singers, Stanhope Silver Band and musicians from Wolsingham School.
