DIFFERENT generations of a Scout group gathered to mark an historic occasion in the way they know best- with traditional activities and skills demonstrations before a barbecue and camp out.

The 1st Sedgefield Scouts Group held the event at Hardwick Park to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Scout leader Hugh Dunlop said: “Lots of things have changed in that time but the values haven’t- it is about fun, learning, togetherness and watching them develop and gain independence.”

First akela Brian Carr, who set up the Cubs in 1966, said: “It is brilliant to celebrate 50 years, what really impresses me is the community spirit, everyone pulls together within Scouts and to support Sedgefield events.

“All the age groups together obviously feel that and it sticks with them as they get older, some former members are leaders now.”
