CREATIVE talents behind an exhibition celebrating the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown’s birthday will team up with flower arrangers for an event.

Members of Darlington Embroiderers’ Guild created pieces which are being shown in Tennants of Leyburn, along with other work including a panel by the Richmond and Leyburn Group of the Embroiderers’ Guild, until June 26.

Some of the collection, along with more work by the Darlington group, will then go to St Mary’s Church, in Gainford.

Linda Edwards, past chairman of Darlington Embroiderers’ Guild, and churchwarden Sue Taylor decided to also include a flower festival.

Flower arrangers from the village and St Andrew’s Church, in nearby Winston, will contribute displays.

The theme is taken from the hymn Colours of Day and many local businesses and Gainford and Langton Parish Council are sponsoring the festival.

There will be a preview party on Friday, July 1 at 7pm with drinks and a finger buffet, when local folk group Gagenforde will entertain.

Tickets are £8 on 01325-730379. The festival will then be open on Saturday, July 2, 10am to to 4pm, and Sunday, July 3, 12noon to 4pm.

Entrance is £4, children free, refreshments available. Proceeds in aid of church funds.
