AN elderly woman is in critical condition after crashing her car into a road sign.
The 94-year-old, from Carrville in Durham city, lost control of her car when she was driving along Dragon Lane, in Gilesgate in Durham, on Saturday, May 28.
The crash happened at about 8pm.
A police spokesman said: "For an unknown reason she lost control of her Smart Fortwo car and it collided with a 'keep left' sign which was in the central reservation outside the Gilesgate Moor Hotel.
"The victim, who is from Carrville in Durham sustained serious internal injuries and she was taken to the University Hospital North Durham, where she remains in a critical condition."
Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who saw the incident is asked to contact the road policing unit on 101.
