THE carcass of a dead whale has washed ashore on an east Cleveland beach this morning.
Missing its head and fin, the animal is being watched over by HM Coastguard whilst awaiting the arrival of specialists to remove the body from Marske beach.
This comes months after a minke whale was discovered washed ashore at Hartlepool. The 18ft, five-tonne whale was believe to have got into trouble after being caught up in lobster pots near Saltburn two weeks before and its body had been drifting around off the coast of Hartlepool.
