TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of a father-of-two whose car crashed into a stone wall.

Alastair Gill, 33, from Consett, County Durham, was airlifted to the RVI in Newcastle after the Ford Fusion he was driving hit the wall near The Derwent Walk at Ebchester just after 7.30pm on Sunday.

He suffered serious injuries and remained in a critical condition in hospital, but died on Tuesday evening.

His passenger, a 33 year-old woman, also from Consett, was also taken to the RVI with an arm injury.

Mr Gill leaves two children, a girl aged five and an 11-year-old boy.

His parents have issued a statement through Durham Constabulary, which said: “He was a much loved son and will be sadly missed.

“We wish to thank everyone for their support and ask to be left alone so we can grieve in peace.”

An inquest will be held to determine the circumstance surrounding the crash.
