A PIG farmer's son once dubbed the "hippest florist in the north" is on a quest to inspire young people to get creative.

Renowned florist Adam Prest, originally of Sedgefield, is appealing to groups and charities in the region to come forward in a bid to organise demonstrations.

"I'm returning to the North-East over the summer to complete my last remaining weddings and would like to arrange demonstrations and presentations aimed at encouraging and inspiring young people between July and September," he said.

The 32-year-old has been arranging flowers since the tender age of eight when he began to enter competitions at Sedgefield Village Show.

"I had exhibited the bantams I'd reared on the farm in the show then had the idea to do flowers as well," he added.

His first professional opportunity came as a 16-year-old when he attended a wedding.

"I'd made a buttonhole for my jacket and hotelier Marian Adamson was so impressed I was asked to provide the flowers for Hardwick Hall," said Mr Prest.

The florist now lives in London and creates floral art pieces for a number of clients in fashion, music and show business.

"London loves my take on floral art and the way I incorporate unusual and fun elements such as fruit, feathers, fur, mushrooms, neon glow sticks, skulls and miniature porcelain horses - nothing is off limits," added Mr Prest.
