BOSSES behind a new open air live night spectacular have announced a revised parking plan after nearby residents raised concerns about the original proposals.

Up to 8,000 visitors are expected to see each of Eleven Arches 14 performances of Kynren – an epic tale of England, in Bishop Auckland, during the summer.

Eleven Arches believes it has produced a plan which ensures the safety, enjoyments and convenience of visitors and residents alike.

The main car park will be onsite with spaces for cast and crew, accessible car parking for blue badge holders, a coach park and shuttle bus drop-off points.

Other ticket holders will be directed to four other car parks, three of which are in Bishop Auckland town centre and a fourth situated at Colliery Fields, Toronto.

The original plan had been to use two additional sites for parking – Newton Cap and a second one in Toronto. However, on further investigation and following public consultation this has been deemed unnecessary.

Eleven Arches has withdrawn a bid to purchase the second Toronto site, and whilst the Newton Cap land remains under its ownership, it does not form part of the traffic management plan for this year.

The main entrance will be open to vehicles and foot passengers during show nights, although it will be one way traffic only between 10pm and midnight to allow for a rapid dispersal of vehicles.

A planning application has been submitted for use of the car parking facilities for 365 days a year, although Eleven Arches CEO Anne-Isabelle Daulon said this is just to give them flexibility to hold up to an additional 30 events a year.

“These sites will be made available for use by members of the general public for events for which Eleven Arches has secured a licence,” she said. “This currently stands at 15 events in 2016, 17 events in 2017, and 18 events in 2018 and beyond.

“In addition, we wish to be able to use these sites as parking facilities for use by members of the general public for up to 30 events per calendar year. We anticipate that these occasions will include community events, arts and crafts days, and traditional festival celebrations including Halloween and Easter.”

She added: “We are pleased that our traffic management plans are now in place, as this represents the completion of one of Kynren’s final logistical elements and reminds of us of how close our spectacular show is.”
