AN attempted dog-napping was averted when the owner managed to knock a can of pepper spray out of the hand of the would-be robber.

The 31-year-old was walking through Hart Cemetery on Hart Lane in Hartlepool at around 11.30am on Thursday, May 5 when he was approached by a man who had pepper spray and demanded the victim to hand over his dog.

The dog walker refused and managed to knock the pepper spray out of the suspect’s hands and the suspect ran off towards the Hart Lane area.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his early twenties, of medium build with messy brown hair.
