A GOOD Samaritan who came to the aid of a seriously injured man is being sought by police.

Officers from Bishop Auckland are trying to trace the witness after he knocked on the door of a house on Escomb Road to raise the alarm for a man lying injured on the pavement.

The 63-year-old victim was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with a fractured skull. He was later transferred to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where his condition is described as critical.

It is not known how the man came by his injuries but it happened just before 11.30pm on Friday, April 29.

The witness who police are trying to trace is described as aged in his mid-forties, of medium build with greying hair.

Detective Constable Steve Richards, of Durham Police, said: “The circumstances of how the man sustained his injuries are at this stage unclear, however we believe it may have been due to a fall.

“We would like to trace the witness who kindly came to his aid and assisted in emergency services being alerted as we believe he may have crucial information.”

Witnesses should call DC Richards on 101, quoting incident reference 187 of April 30.
