A LUCKY little girl has been crowned Sedgefield's Flower Queen ahead of the town's annual traditional medieval fair.

Sedgefield Primary School pupil Robyn Taylor, aged eight, will undertake the honourable task of leading the parade to mark the start of Sedgefield Medieval Fair.

She will be accompanied by her royal attendants and Sedgefield Hardwick Primary School pupils Isabel Williams, eight, and sisters Scarlet Cockburn, six and nine-year-old Ruby Cockburn.

Pat Buckley, chair of the organising committee, said: "Every year we choose a queen from girls between the ages of eight and 12.

"Nobody can be a Flower Queen twice and we do it by drawing names from a hat."

Adorned in her best frock, headdress and velvet cloak, Robyn will sit in pride of place upon a horse-drawn carriage as she leads the parade from Sedgefield Primary School around the green.

This year the theme for the march on Saturday, May 21, is Rio - inspired by the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games.

It is expected to be awash with colour as children from Sedgefield and Sedgefield Hardwick primary schools dress up in costumes fit for a carnival.

The fair will take place across the town between 10am and 4pm.
