YORKSHIRE’S record-breaking rowers have helped launch another challenge in the county – the Great Yorkshire Run in Harrogate.

The new 10K run will set off from the town on Sunday, July 24, taking in some of its most scenic views.

Yesterday (Wednesday, April 27) the Yorkshire Rows team visited Masham to launch the event with sponsors Theakston.

People across the world cheered on mothers, Frances Davies, Helen Butters, Janette Benaddi and Niki Doeg during their 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean, where they battled a hurricane, power failures, attacks from flying fish, sea sickness and injuries.

Frances said: “We still can't quite believe that we actually rowed across the Atlantic Ocean. It feels very surreal.

“We're all suffering from an 'adrenaline hangover' which can probably only be cured by finding another event to take part in.

“I have taken part in many 10k races but I am so excited that this big one is coming to a location so close to home.

“There's something very special about running on a course around landmarks that are familiar.”

Simon Theakston, director at T&R Theakston added: "We are thrilled to be welcoming the Yorkshire Rows ladies to help us launch the Great Yorkshire Run - Harrogate."

One of the runners will be charity runner Jack Marshall, who will be fundraising for Bloodwise. Jack suffers a rare neurological condition called moebius syndrome. He is blind in one eye and his balance and co-ordination is affected, but he continues to inspire people around him by completing fundraising runs for charity.

Entries for the Great Yorkshire Run – Harrogate, in association with Theakston, are now open at GreatRun.org/Yorkshire
