MORE than 50 groups of Morris dancers from across the country will descend on York city centre for a national celebration next month.
The Joint Morris Organisations' annual gathering will see the groups performing through the day on Saturday, April 23.
York group Minster Strays, which is hosting the Day of Dance, is promising "a vibrant and energetic illustration of the variety of styles and costumes within the Morris world.”
Performances will include Cotswold hankie and stick dances, intricate dances originating from the mill towns of the north west, clog dances from Lancashire as well as Appalachian, Garland and Longsword displays.
This is an annual event held in a different city each year to bring together members from the Joint Morris Organisations.
Juliette Pegram of Minster Strays said: “This is a fabulous opportunity to showcase our beautiful city.
"We are expecting several hundred dancers coming to York specifically for this event.”
