A MAN who terrorised two women by forcing them to put on a lesbian sex show before attacking them with a knife has been warned he faces a very substantial jail sentence.

Mohamed Zahran was found guilty at Teesside Crown Court of two offences each of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, sexual assault and false imprisonment.

He had denied the offences, but admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 38-year-old, of Clarence Street, Bowburn, held the women at knifepoint and made them strip off and perform sex acts on one another during the ordeal at a house in County Durham in October last year.

A toddler belonging to one of the women was present and was said to be struck dumb with shock by the bloodbath that ensued.

One of the women suffered six stab wounds to her left breast, one to her back and had a fractured rib and punctured lung.

The other was knifed in the chest, back, hip and left buttock and had a cut to her liver.

Zahran, who said he had no memory of the bloody attack, was found by police inside the house with a knife sticking out of his stomach, after seemingly stabbing himself.

One of his victims told detectives that he was talking to himself in Arabic before he hatched what she called a “psycho idea".

Shaven headed Zahran, who was accompanied by an interpreter in the dock, showed no emotion as the verdicts were passed by the jury.

Prosecutor Matthew Bean told Judge Simon Phillips, QC, that one of the complainants wished to be present to hear Zahran sentenced.

He also said updates were needed to the victim impact statements both women gave police after the incident.

Judge Phillips agreed that sentencing would be adjourned until May 11.

He thanked the jury for the close attention they had paid to the case, describing it as very serious, and also said it was likely they would remember for a long time the graphic accounts they had heard from the women.

He said Egyptian-born Zahran would remain in custody, adding: “I am ordering a further psychiatric report to determine certain issues in relation to dangerousness and risk and a pre-sentence report.

“The expectation is that you will receive a very substantial sentence of imprisonment when you come to be sentenced.”
