HUNDREDS of theatre lovers will be reunited with personalised plaques that have been a part of Darlington’s Civic Theatre for 25 years.

A campaign to sponsor auditorium seats was launched in the early nineties and more than 300 arts enthusiasts pledged their support in return for their own labelled seat.

Now the Civic Theatre’s imminent renovation means each personalised brass plaque will be returned to its original sponsor.

Heather Walkington, director of fundraising and development at Darlington Civic Theatre, said: “Many were dedicated to friends and family and their support made the 900 for 90’s campaign possible.

“With a large restoration on the horizon, we felt the time was right to reunite people with their own part of the theatre.”

Alongside theatre enthusiasts in Darlington, several famous faces have also sponsored seats in the past including Tom Jones, Cameron Mackintosh, Ken Dodd and Tommy Cooper. Several Darlington businesses also got involved with the campaign and Cummins Engine Ltd, Elm Ridge Garden Centre and Darlington Rotary Club, and they will be reunited with their plaques.
