A SCHOOL in Darlington has seen a fantastic response to its Fairtrade stall.
Mowden Junior School students have been taught the meaning and importance of the popular non-profit organisation, during this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight.
Y3 teacher Helen Maddison organised a visit by Luz Marina, from Colombia, who gave a speech in Spanish at assembly, on how Fairtrade has helped her.
Student ambassadors then planned, produced and promoted their own stall, selling produce from the Fairtrade website.
It proved a big hit, with queues going out the school and across the playground.
Ambassador Matthew Sturman, aged eight, said: “I really enjoyed helping to run the stall. It is great to help people who don’t have as much as us.”
The Fairtrade Foundation ensure sustainability and decent working conditions for farmers, and their communities, in developing countries.
