A VICAR from the North-East has dyed her hair purple to raise money to repair her church roof.
Elaine Jones, the vicar at St Cuthbert's in Peterlee, County Durham, had her hair dyed on Ash Wednesday for Lent.
She has pledged to keep her bright new hairdo until Easter with money raised being used to help fix the church roof.
The vicar said: “I am hoping people will sponsor me and all proceeds will go towards the church roof fund.
“We need to raise money for the repair as there is no guarantee we will get listed building status which will enable us to access some funding, but even if we get listed status we will still have to raise money.
“Irrespective, the cost of the repairs will be approximately £100,000. The hole is getting bigger and the roof is leaking in other places.
“I am paying the cost to have my hair dyed so as all proceeds can go to the roof. “I am hoping people in the community will sponsor me as well as folk from church.”
To support the fund people can visit St Cuthbert's Vicarage on Manor Way or call 0191-586-2630.
