RESIDENTS at a Newton Aycliffe care home were treated to a special Valentine's showcase by the king of rock and roll.

Elvis impersonator Mike Memphis stopped by at Rose Lodge care home where he performed a number of the King's classic tunes before handing out roses to the ladies during none only than Love me Tender.

Nicola Wheatley, home manager at Rose Lodge, said: “Many of our residents are big Elvis fans and the live concerts from Mike Memphis are always a big hit.

"We thought that we would ask him to present our ladies with a rose as a special Valentine’s Day treat and they absolutely loved the surprise.

"It’s been a really memorable day for all involved.”

Rose Lodge, on Carer's Way, is a residential care home which offers specialist care for those living with dementia.

Staff at the home are also celebrating this week after it got a rating of 910 out of 1,000 in a national survey, with the average being 878.

Now in its fourth year, the Your Care Rating survey of residents is the country’s largest.

Each care home was given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes; staff and care, home comforts, choice and having a say, and quality of life.

Ms Wheatley added: “It’s great that our residents value the care they receive at Rose Lodge. Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive, which shows that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling."
