DRIVERS face a week of diversions when resurfacing of the A688 Spennymoor bypass starts this weekend. Work on the carriageway will begin on Saturday, February 13. Lanes will be closed while Rainton Construction carries out the resurfacing on behalf of Durham County Council. Westbound traffic will still be able to use the A688, however eastbound traffic will be directed to use a signed diversion. John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “These vital works are part of our continuing highway capital maintenance programme to maintain the condition of the highway network.” It is expected to be completed by Sunday, February 21.
