LABRADOR Charlie is looking for love this Valentine’s Day after a lonesome year in the doghouse.

Dogs Trust Darlington are hoping to find a home for Charlie, a five-year-old Labrador cross who was sent to the kennels a year ago when his former owner fell ill.

In recent weeks Charlie’s heartache has worsened, a smouldering romance with kennel-mate Bambi cut short when she was swept off her feet and into a new home.

Staff at the Dogs Trust kennels on Hill House Lane, Sadberge, hoped it would not be long before the pining lovers were reunited.

Rebecca McKeown from the Dogs Trust said Charlie was a favourite with both staff and his canine colleagues.

She said: “Charlie is a beautiful boy with so much love to give. He has certainly won the hearts of the staff here and we hope he’ll soon get a second chance at happiness in a new home

“We are all so fond of him and really want to see him find love this Valentine’s Day. He’s seen his buddy Bambi find her perfect match and is longing for that special someone to call his own.

“This adorable boy is looking for a new home with patient owners who will give him plenty of time to settle in. Potential owners will need to visit a few times to build up a bond but once he gets to know you, he will be a lifelong friend.”
