RESIDENTS from St George’s Hall and Lodge in Darlington made winter accessories and created posters and banners to help prepare staff for a nine mile walk, which raised £320 for the British Heart Foundation.

On Friday (February 5), seven members of staff ventured towards Morrisons in Morton Park, where they were catered for during their rest stop with a warming drink in the café.

In preparation for the walk, residents used red yarn to make pom-poms for the walkers’ woolly red hats and created heart-shaped posters, which raised awareness for the charity on their walk.

Heading back to the home through the village of Middleton St George, many donations were made by the friendly neighbourhood.

Jackie Malton, Activity Coordinator, said: “We got lots of attention from people in their cars, one chap stopped and wound down his window to contribute to our charity bucket.

“Thank you to all our sponsors, Morrisons at Morton Park for our tea and coffee and of course the residents who helped us get ready for the day. Residents being involved in events such as this helps them to see that they are valuable part of the team, reflecting the close and family atmosphere of St George’s."

Friends and family of the residents and staff at St George’s also showed their support for the fund-raiser by sponsoring the walkers.
