FOR a historic flower club to flourish, membership must grow.

A drop in membership means Darlington Flower Club could face an uncertain future.

The club, established in the town for almost 60 years, hosts a varied programme of events.

Members are now appealing for others to join them in ensuring the club continues to bloom.

Anyone interested in flowers is invited to sign up and enjoy a number of activities, including visits from national demonstrators and regular trips.

Long term member Doreen Howson said: “We like to have the best of the best but it is getting more difficult to afford the best of the best.

“We’d love more people to join us – come along and we can show you what to do with your 99p supermarket flowers.

She added: “We really need support.

“If new members don’t come, the things we’ve been doing for years might not happen.

“The club has been here for 60 years, we don’t want to see it go but the situation is becoming serious.”
