THE UK’s biggest tourism conference is set to be staged in Yorkshire next month, when people can hear about campaigns and projects planned for the county.

Welcome to Yorkshire is to host the annual Y16 event at the York Barbican on Wednesday, March 23, when the new initiatives and projects will be unveiled.

The announcements are being kept under wraps, but there are expected to be some special guests and headline announcements.

About 1,000 people are set to attend the event which will run like a live TV show and will be hosted by national sports presenter Rob Walker.

Previous Y conferences have welcomed a range of famous faces from Last Tango in Halifax Star Dean Andrews to Paralympic superstar Hannah Cockroft MBE.

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “This is a not-to-be-missed chance to get businesses across Yorkshire together to showcase what’s planned for the year ahead and make no mistake, it’s going to be another exciting year.

“Y16 promises to inspire and entertain and bring the great and good of Yorkshire tourism together to make things happen.”
