A BEAUTY spot is holding a woodland walk to raise money for charity.

Congburn Arboretum, at Edmondsley, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, is hoping people will come along on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14.

It has been organised in aid of the National Garden Scheme, which supports a range of caring organisations, including Macmillan, Marie Cure and Hospice UK.

Between 10am and 4pm, visitors to the grounds of the arboretum, which is owned by Alan Herbert, and run by his family, will be able to enjoy the snowdrops and hellebores currently in flower.

Sue Walker, the scheme’s publicity officer for County Durham and Teesdale, said: “It is a pleasant walk through woodland.

"By doing this people are donating money to the charities and they are all the caring and nursing charities, which are great.”

The arboretum also has a café offering hot drinks and light lunches and a plant nursery as well as the woodland walks.

Entry is £3 for adults, but children go free.
