A ONE-WOMAN show will explore the real inspiration behind the lead character in the musical Cabaret.

The musical theatre production by Sophie Jugé about the fictional Sally Bowles is set to hit the stage at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, this week.

Accompanied by a live jazz pianist bringing the sound of the 1930s, Muse delves into the life of Jean Ross - writer Christopher Isherwood’s inspiration for the flamboyant character.

Singer and writer Jean Ross was said to be "divinely decadent" but led a more complex life as a political journalist.

The show will feature well known songs including These Foolish Things, I’ve Found a New Baby and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.

Audiences are invited to stay for a question and answer session after the show with the performer and producer herself.

The show takes place on Saturday (Feb 13) at 8pm and tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for students.
