A YOUNG book lover has signed up to take part in the Stockton reading challenge.

Jacob Cole loves reading so much that he has his own Youtube channel dedicated to his regular visits to the library.

The four-year-old, who is joined on his trips from his Billingham home by parents Steve and Gemma, is taking up the challenge of borrowing and reading 18 books within 12 months from a wide variety of categories.

With different styles, genres and characters to choose from, book-lovers will relish the challenge of trying something new or rediscovering an old favourite.

Throughout the Reading Challenge the youngster will be reviewing the books he chooses and will be uploading these to his channel.

He said: “I like the library because I find new stories and I love to read with my Mam and Dad."

The challenge was launched in Stockton on Saturday (February 6) to coincide with National Libraries Day.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “There’s nothing better than setting yourself a goal and achieving it. For book lovers of all ages Stockton’s Reading Challenge is the perfect year-long challenge. We’re always keen to encourage new readers and hope the challenge will inspire people to take up reading for pleasure, broaden what they read and, especially for younger readers, build their confidence.”

Those who complete the challenge will be entered into a prize draw with the chance to win an iPad Mini among other prizes.
