A MAN has admitted breaching environmental permit regulations by allowing the dumping of waste for landfilling on a farm site, without authority.

Stuart Christopher McCarroll is now in jeopardy of being jailed, when he returns to court to learn his fate, next month, as the offences put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence.

Twenty-seven-year-old McCarroll admitted five charges brought by the Environment Agency, four of them over operating a regulated facility other than in accordance with his environmental permit, by allowing waste to be deposited and landfilled.

The other count relates to submitting controlled waste to a listed operation, all at Sun Ridge Farm, Thornley, County Durham, on various dates last year.

Lee Fish, for the agency, said there was an issue over burning of waste on the site, which may have been contested, but, in the light of the pleas, it is no longer an issue.

William Byrne, for the defendant, asked for sentence to be adjourned to allow for preparation of background reports on his client, particularly given the fact he is in breach of the suspended sentence, imposed for a money laundering conviction, at Teesside Crown Court, in November 2014.

Judge Simon Hickey agreed and bailed McCarroll, of Sun Ridge Farm, to return for sentence on March 11.
