MORE than 100 houses on a Spennymoor estate are getting home improvements.

Housing provider livin started regenerating about 120 two, three and four bedroom homes on York Hill in October, 2015.

Properties will be made more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, the work will reduce fuel bills and improve the environment and houses will be available to rent or buy from the summer.

Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman visited the estate on Friday, January 15 to see the work first hand.

Ms Goodman said: “I was absolutely delighted to see the work beginning on the York Hill Estate to create new family homes to a very high standard and to make this a really nice place to live.

"This was one of the most positive developments I’ve seen in the past 12 months.”

Alan Boddy, executive director of housing and business development, said: "The properties are already generating interest and the estate has already improved.

"We hope that by continuing to work alongside local community partners and community groups we can create a thriving and sustainable community.”

A demonstrator home designed to deliver affordable living skills and financial advice will open at York Hill in June 2016.
