A TEENAGE boy has been charged by police following an alleged incident where police officers checking for drink drivers were nearly struck by a car.

Durham Police were conducting checks as part of the Christmas Drink Drive campaign near Helmington Row, Crook, County Durham, on Thursday night.

The driver of a car, believed to be a Ford Focus, is said by police to have failed to stop, narrowly missing officers.

It crashed a short time later at Low Willington. The suspect was arrested nearby shortly afterwards.

On Friday night Durham Police said they had charged a 15-year-old with aggravated vehicle taking, possession of bladed article, careless driving, having no licence or insurance and failing to stop.
