A DRIVER who ran away from the scene of an accident is being sought by police.

A blue Vauxhall Astra and a blue Mazda 323 crashed at the junction of Blakelock Gardens and Brinkburn Road in Hartlepool on Sunday at 3pm.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles in order to exchange details and the driver of the Mazda got back in his vehicle, moved it off the carriageway and on to the pavement.

He then ran off along Blakelock Gardens, in the direction of York Road.

The driver of the Mazda is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, of average build and wearing a grey hooded top, a blue body warmer and blue denim jeans.

No one was injured in the collision.

Police are appealing for the driver of the Mazda to come forward.
