A MAJOR milestone has been achieved in the latest expansion programme at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

The last bolt has been fastened into position on the structural steel frame for the new £10m events and exhibition hall on the sprawling showground in Harrogate.

When completed in time for next summer’s Great Yorkshire Show, the new will provide an additional 4,320 square metres of open span, versatile space, making it one of the North’s major event venues.

The development will enable the Great Yorkshire Showground, owned by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS), to support a wide range of events throughout the calendar from blue chip company conferences to large dinners, exhibitions and sporting occasions.

The society’s deputy chief executive, Heather Parry, said: “There’s so much potential in this development for us, our region and beyond and passing each construction milestone is cause for celebration.“

In addition to the exhibition space, the new hall will also offer a café, large foyer, offices and dedicated seminar space. Work should be completed by next summer when the building will be connected to the adjoining hall.
