CHURCH goers have shone a light on their parish with a fundraising calender.

The Spennymoor in Photographs calendar has been produced by members of St Paul's Church, in Spennymoor.

Throughout the year, members of the church's After 8 fellowship group took pictures of favourite and familiar scenes around the town.

The outcome was a collection of colour photographs depicting life in their community including Jubilee Park, the Miners’ Gala banner, and the War Memorial Cenotaph.

Deborah Humphreys, from After 8, said: “We decided that doing this calendar was a new and inspired way of raising vital funds for the church.

"The photographs were all taken by members of the group earlier in the year and it was great to explore our town and capture it in this way.”

After 8 meets at the St Paul’s Centre on the fourth Wednesday of the month, from 8pm.

New members are welcome to drop in on the group o make new friends in an informal and relaxed setting.

The calendars are priced at £6 each or two for £10 and are available from St Paul’s Church at the following times: Sundays, from 11.45am to 12.30pm; Wednesdays, 10.30am to 11.30am and Fridays, 10am to 11.30am.

Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go towards paying for children to attend next year’s parish retreat and the upgrade of the church’s sound system.
