A WOMAN who smashed her face on the pavement after being punched in the head during an attempted robbery could require surgery for her injuries.

The 46-year-old was attacked on Westmoreland Road in Redcar near to the Lakes Social Club at about 1.15am on Sunday, November 15, when five or six male youths approached the victim and one of them punched her in the back of the head, causing her to fall forward and hit her face off the pavement.

The victim suffered from injuries to her mouth and teeth and she had to seek medical treatment.

A 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and was later released without charge.
